Vineyards

High altitude, cool climate vineyards are at the heart of clo.

The grapes are farmed and sourced from vineyards in the Tumbarumba and Orange regions of NSW.

Orange and Tumbarumba are some of the most underrated grape-growing regions in Australia. They are both high altitude (greater than 600masl) regions with continental climates which creates a growing season of warm days and cool nights. This phenomena is known as diurnal shift and is responsible for greater flavour development in grapes while maintaining higher acid levels.

The soils vary from region to region and vineyard to vineyard. These variations in soils are expressed differently and uniquely in the grapes that are farmed there. Tumbarumba's major soil types are basalt and granite, where as Orange is volcanic over limestone (terra rossa).

I farm the small hamlet of Sunnyside in Tumbarumba and source grapes from 3 well-renowned vineyards in NSW:

  • Glenburnie - Tumbarumba
  • Mountain View - Tumbarumba
  • Gordon Hills - Orange
