Serious, savoury and salty

I adore the wines of Jura so making this wine came very naturally. 100% Chardonnay from the high-elevation vineyard (860masl) of Gordon Hill in Orange, NSW. The grapes are hand-picked and basket pressed to old barrels for natural fermentation on full solids. Once primary and malo-lactic fermentations are complete the barrels are left untopped for a further 12 months to develop a protective flor and it’s oxidative characteristics. The wine is bottled unfiltered, unfined and unsulfured.

The 2022 Orange Chardonnay is an intense and savoury expression of the variety. Rock salt, nuttiness, putty and stone fruits. It’s deeply layered in secondary and tertiary characters but underpinned by primary fruit. The wine is mouth-coating showing richness in weight yet freshness in both texture and acidity. Decant and serve with poultry, mushrooms, sausage or Comte.
